Many people have a wrong thought that commenting on self-hosted Wordpress blogs can earn them a link back to their blog since when they comment, you are required to enter your name and blog or site URL if you have one. I am writing this to all blog readers and bloggers. In default, Wordpress blogs will not give you a linkback after you have commented as your link will be closed by a “nofollow” tag which will stop Google spiders from crawling to you link. This of course will make the link not counted.
Why comment on Wayne Liew Dot Com?
You should definitely comment on Wayne Liew Dot Com. Apart from competing for a Top Commentator place every month to get a featured spot on my home page which is definitely without the “nofollow” tag, my posts are free from “nofollow” tags as well from now on. I had just removed them, all name links, links inside your comments and a linkback from your site itself will now be crawled by search engine spiders.

Do you think that I am lying? Easy, to audit my blog, just try commenting on any of my posts and through your browser, go to View –> Page Source. Inside the document, find for “nofollow”. You will find some but they are not around your links, they are just around the avatars, this is to reduce the amount of outgoing links on my blog.
Now, a comment = a link to your blog, is it a fair deal? I appreciate all of your comments and I guessed I don’t need to tell more about the benefits of links, right? Now, do you know what you have to do? Start commenting here, I have a lot of posts in my Archives but comment spam is taken strictly here!
What can I do to be like you?
I just tried out a plugin called NoFollow Free which you can get free of charge! This plugin will help you remove all the “nofollow” tags in your comment.php template! This will be a great plugin to reward your readers who loved to give you a comment every time you post something!
Also, do you have the fear that you will have other “nofollow” tags around your template because the theme designer placed it in? Well, for this one, you can commence what I call a “nofollow” tag audit which every “nofollow” tags will be dug out and destroyed (deleted).
Anyway, still don’t know the reason why you should get a link from my homepage? I think the following image will clear all your doubts!

Mine is a question: to check if my blog has ‘nofollow’ tag, I just have to view the source of my page?
October 4th, 2007 at 10:11 pm
Not a very bad way to attract more readers to comment.
October 4th, 2007 at 10:26 pm

Can I say this : “Commenting on other wordpress blog, won’t give you a link back ?”
October 5th, 2007 at 6:18 pm
@ jayhan
It is good to reward your readers for commenting. They deserve it and I love you all!
@ Nicholas
Commenting can get you more visits. Now, are you tempted to comment more?
@ Emily Lin
Yes. I installed it for a long time but didn’t fully utilise it.
@ Valen
kucau has provided you with the answer. The simple way is to view and search out the “nofollow” tags.
@ Jason
It’s good to reward your readers.
@ lukxiufung
I will, for sure! Don’t care too much about your PR, when you continue to blog, you will find your PR to rise over the time. Moreover, Google might be changing their PR ranking policy.
@ kucau
Thanks for replying to Valen. This plugin can do what you stated out as well. As for spams, I don’t see many got through the Akismet so no worries!
@ Sean
It’s great you are starting to use Google Webmaster Tools. The PR will come by soon. I am dreading for it as well!
@ Aceone118
Try to use it then, your readers will be proud of you!
@ Irene
You are the first commentator of my most popular post, this is why you got featured!
@ conancat
Thanks thanks thanks.
It’s true about the Technorati thing. Good findings! This is why newcomers can get an authority from Wayne Liew Dot Com! Yay!
Mari mari comment!
@ thiamhin
Thanks.
@ miche
I want PR as well! Everyone wants it…
@ MonkeyWong
It will have some minor effects on my posts’ PR, not my home page PR and this is fine with me. My readers are more important.
I still have an PR5 blog some where…
@ KitKat
I uses iwebtools as my prediction tool.
Try linkbaiting me, I will sure get caught by you.
@ keeyit
Yes, unless they removed their “nofollow” tags manually or with some help from plugins.
@ All readers
If you got onto a blog’s home page, the amount of link backs that you will get will be huge.
Think of this, the sidebar appears on every page of a blog, if a blog is around for 2 or 3 or more years, imagine the number of posts they have! Imagine the backlinks!
How to get onto my home page? Be a top commentator!
October 5th, 2007 at 7:33 pm
Wah so “worth” ar 1 comment for a link! But seriously I only will comment when I got things to say, no point commenting meaninglessly right?
October 5th, 2007 at 8:08 pm
hehehe welcome to the no nofollow club
i have put up quite sometime but i never told anyone
either i forgot or i am pure lazy.

October 5th, 2007 at 10:21 pm

October 5th, 2007 at 10:25 pm

October 6th, 2007 at 1:37 pm
@ yung .
Yes, you are true. This is the essence and as a blogger, I only gives reward for quality commentator!
@ satkuru
Thanks for welcoming. I love to boast, that’s why.
@ lukxiufung
