Article marketing has always been a successful marketing method on the Internet right from marketing a product for your business and to build traffic for sites or blogs which you will be learning from this series.

What is Article Marketing?

Article marketing is a viral way of marketing by sending a piece or a large group of articles around the Internet. The term "viral" here is very powerful. If article marketing is done properly, your voice, your opinions and your expertise, through the widespread of the articles that you have written will be able to go right across the Internet by being passed on and on.

Reinforcing Your Presence

Writing good stuffs on your blog like what most bloggers are doing will only let it stays on your blog, maybe forever, without anyone noticing it. Through article marketing, the article you have written, either in a form of summary or something that adds value, there is a chance of it being read by people who have never heard of you, being republished on blogs and sites and sometimes, even being featured in e-books.

All of these will contribute targeted traffic to your blog in the long run, as long as the articles that you have written suit the niche that you are in. Commenting on other niche blogs or targeting the come-and-go social media traffic might not as effective as article marketing to build targeted traffic.

Backlinks Building

As we proceed along this weekly series which I predict will end around May or June, you will learn more on why article marketing can be an effective tool to build backlinks for both your blog and your blog posts.

The simple idea is that as article marketing tends to go viral, your links within the article will be preserved while the articles are being reproduced or being quoted and commented on other sites or blogs. This will help contribute a backlink to your blog.

The Pros and Cons of Article Marketing

With the introduction above, I hope you have a brief idea of what article marketing is all about. Article marketing has its own pros and cons just like any other marketing or traffic building methods. However, I truly think that the pros certainly outweighs the cons. Thus, I am recommending bloggers, who want to build a larger traffic base, backlinks and presence within your niche to try out article marketing.

Pros of Article Marketing

Article marketing, with all the benefits that I have covered before this can be easily done by bloggers who write their own contents. If you are always updating your blog with your own writing, it is presumed that you have a flair in writing and producing a few extra 300-600 words articles everyday should not be a problem.

Even you don’t have a flair in writing or you are lazy to push yourself further in writing articles, you can hire ghostwriters that will write for you at a very low cost. Their can basically write articles on every niches and the quality of their articles can go beyond the value of money that you have paid for.

Articles for article marketing purposes will not need to be of high quality like those requirements for guest blogging. As long as your articles provide useful information and are not sales copy, it should be working to your favor.

Cons of Article Marketing

The cons of article marketing are not as much as the pros. Article marketing does not work for those who are not into writing articles and not wanting to pay someone to do for them. Lazy and stingy bloggers will fail or might not even prefer article marketing to build their blog traffic.

For bloggers with a tight schedule, article marketing can become a burden to your productivity as well. Article marketing, especially for beginners, needs a lot of experimenting and monitoring to get the trend. However, this will only be an initial problem. Once you get hold of what is needed, following the success trend will give you great enduring results.

Lazy Sleep in Office

The road to success with article marketing is to have sheer hard work with some tips which I will be giving out. Due to the hard work, most starters will either give up or get themselves onto another fad during the process. You must keep yourself motivated to use article marketing as a traffic building method. Let me tell you one thing, the aim of top article marketers is to get a niche saturated by writing at least 5 articles a day to kick off their campaign. Yes, this is the truth.

Wayne Liew Dot Com Article Marketing Series

I will be giving out a step-by-step guide every week on how you can start your own article marketing campaign. This series will cover all the basic steps needed in every stage of article marketing to make it work for you. Apart from the basic steps, I will be adding in my personal opinion and experience to guide you to success with this method even faster without going through all the trial and error.

I was considering writing articles and then posting shorter versions of the article in my blog and linking to the full article directly. In your opinion is that worth it or should I only be doing it the other way around - meaning pointing to my site from the directory?

    @ John:
I would say write a shorter version and then point it to your site. Your purpose is to increase traffic and awareness for your site, right?

My own experience, I have about 50 articles on article directories. But they don’t even get to my top 15 referring sites yet. So, I’m agree on what Wayne’s said. It took a lot of effort to make article marketing works for your site. But once you get them running, they’ll be permanently donating traffic to your site.

    @ Jon Marks
The other round will be better. Like what Louis has pointed out, you are trying to bait the traffic to your blog, not from your blog to the directory. Even this is the case, you will find me giving tips on how you can properly promote your articles on the directories so that the impact can be better.

    @ Louis
50 articles is a great effort I should say for a blogger. Well, for me, the traffic from article marketing takes time to grow but the quality tends to be better and provide visitors for longer term compared to social media traffic which is the whole blogosphere buzz is about today. :-)

    @ luz
Yes, you can actually practice writing by having an article marketing schedule.

    @ Chetan
It can be successful for blogs as well. Try to target long tail keywords like what are you doing for niche sites and you should be getting targeted traffic as well.
