It’s another edition of the Weekly Biz Buzz and I hope everyone has recovered from their New Year blues.
If you are subscribed to a number of blogs, you would have noticed that recently published blog posts are mostly about trends, things to expect in 2010 and resolutions. In fact, I published my own about mobile application development.
Out of all the blog posts, I only handpicked three that deserve your attention because they focus on things that others fail to cover, perhaps due to the excitement for 2010. :p
Common Problems with Digital Marketing
2009 was a great year for marketing. Digital marketing, especially social media, took off like crazy. The way businesses market themselves is now significantly different than the past. Although there are a lot of companies, agencies and individuals offering solutions to counter a change like this, most campaigns fail.
Adam Singer took a deep look at the landscape and discovered the many flaws that caused the failure of digital marketing campaigns. In his blog post, Digital Marketing Strategy Development: 12 Common Problems, Adam outlined and elaborated on the specific problems that contributed to a digital marketing campaign failure.
If you are heavily into Internet marketing or social media, you may think that most of the points should come as common sense. However, from what I observed, such mistakes are being made by businesses, big and small on a daily basis.
Irrelevant Internet Marketing Trends for 2010
A lot of blog posts that feature trends focus on things that you should pay attention to. Ian Lurie, on the other hand, published 11 Internet Marketing Signs to Ignore in 2010, which caught my attention.
In his blog post, Ian pointed out several things that business owners and marketers shouldn’t worry about moving into 2010. Some of them are:
- Mobile Advertising (Read more about other mobile marketing ideas)
- Bing vs Google
- Web 3.0
- Google Real Time Search
- Green Marketing
Most of the trends listed will be happening in 2010 but because of the predicted slow adoption, you shouldn’t be paying too much attention.
Getting Clients from Elance and Guru
Elance and Guru are two of the most popular jobs bidding site for freelancers. Despite their popularity, there are still a lot of freelancers holding back from using these sites due to various reasons such as low quality clients, lack of knowledge about how these sites work, etc.
Tim Wasson came up with a great blog post with the title, How to Use Elance and Guru to Land that Client Every Time. In this blog post, Tim detailed every element that you should pay attention to if you want to start winning clients from these sites.
If you are skeptical about the effectiveness of such sites because of various presumptions, Tim also laid down a few advantages of using them. Whether you are going to consider Elance or Guru as a potential source of clients, this blog post is a must read.
