Fooling Around The Blogosphere Starts Here

To Dive Into A News Or To Watch

October28

The euphoria of the week has been the second round of Google Page Rank dance and everyone has been talking about it, big blog, small blog and even mainstream media like the Sydney Morning Herald. I am going to set up another discussion today.

The title tells it all, when hot news dropped onto your hands, will you blog about it immediately or choose to hold yourself back to look at it from the hindsight before blogging about it?

If you asked me, I have done both of it and I am very lucky that both the techniques work for me. I got a large stream of traffic when I cracked about “Malaysians’ PayPal Dream Comes True” immediately after I read about the news.

For the Google Page Rank update this time round, I didn’t blog about it when the big boys blogs are discussing with their about their demotion. I thought I will have no chance to blog about it again but yesterday, the whole thing turned around and Google rewarded me for my patience.

Immediately write about a buzz
This works when you discover some news which has been undiscovered by most of the bloggers, especially big time bloggers. This is when you write about it and if possible, linkbaits can be directed to big time bloggers. In an instance your blog will have a huge leap in traffic, provided that you have conveyed the news well

Dive With Fire

The mistake I see is that many wrote about an event without much analysis and just followed blindly what the big blogs had blogged about. Take the second round of Page Rank demotion for example, big time blogs blogged about it by taking a few big blogs and show the results of the updates. The method was immediately picked up by small blogs, using the same way to blog about the same event.

This makes the whole thing become a plain stuff and to be honest, I am sick of reading the same old thing to the extent that I can remember what is the before and after Google Page Rank of all those big times.

Move back and look at it from the hindsight
When you got a buzz and it is too late since the blogosphere is already hot in discussion about it, don’t dive in it any more! Take a step back and think of what can get the attention of your readers. Something fresh but still revolving around the current hot stuffs will help.

Take the Google Page Rank demotion again as an example, if you are person full of ideas, you can immediately turn the table, asking your readers to create a slogan against Google’s action or suggesting what other measurements for blogs evaluation.

This can certainly make your contents unique and at the same time it is on something that people is interested in reading. If you are not bright enough to think of something, just don’t blog about it since everyone is already blogging about it and I am sure most of your readers will know about it by the time they reach your blog so, BE DIFFERENT!

Be Different Eggs

If they really want an opinion from you about the whole matter, they will write to you, if not, this means that they want you to give them something fresh and new.

Thinking and discussion time
Did you applied the above two methods before or you have always been the person that got the news, got delighted and share it with your readers? Tell me about your experiences and views on the example I provided, especially the recent Google Page Rank update, do you think that it has been a webmaster’s whore (sorry for the word, don’t feel offended)?

Normally I just write about things that I sensed. I am not really concern about other things, haha!

This is an article to guide you on your sensing.

I am not always right and methods differ for different people. To be honest, I wrote this because I am tired of PR these few days.

    @ Kitkat
    Come on… Don’t be like that… :???:

I blog about the PR thing centered on my previous blog, which now is defunct, yet still retained a PR4, which is crazy, considering the blog is no long active.
And my new blog is at PR2 from PR0, after only started at the end of September.

Maybe all the links are still linking to your previous blog. Congratulations for the rise in PR of your new blog!

I wasn’t going to post about the PR at all since everything had beat to death, but then I went from a PR0 to a PR2 this weekend and had to “something”.

    Congrats yourself as well…

Agreed, I normally don’t post news that the big boys have posted. Like the widget bucks thing, blogrush, etc.

And ‘if’ I post one, I try to be unique as much as possible.

I agree with kidblogger says - if you want to make a post that all the big boyz already posted you must make it really unique and different as much as possible.

But if you be the FIRST to post about certain topic, that really nice.

    @ chipseo
A small post to celebrate the milestone is OK, at least I can comment a congratulations.

    @ Kitkat
    Come on…

    @ Carl
I enjoyed your posts because of the uniqueness. You always post something that other big blogs don’t.

    @ Rice Blogger
This is what I call a unique post! Well done!

This is why we need to evaluate the situation before you publish something.
