The release of Wordpress 2.3 is scheduled on 24th of September 2007, which is next Monday. Wordpress released “Plugin/Plugins Compatibility/2.3″ which will tell you which plugins you are using require an upgrade as well and what are those which you can continue to use.
When I go through the list, I noticed that most of my plugins is not in the compatible list and two of them required an upgrade themselves. I will make them all compatible and this is a task that I must complete before 24th of September so that I can upgrade my version of Wordpress.
This update will be my first major update after I joined the Wordpress bandwagon. I’ve done my previous minor update from Wordpress 2.2 to Wordpress 2.2.3 which I am using now.
A major Wordpress is an important for us Wordpress users although it is a difficult task. We will risk losing our data, all our posts and pages, including all the modifications we have done previously with our blogs.
My recommendations on updating or not after the jump.
Despite all the risk, we must upgrade for the sake of improved and new functions. Also, I am sure that you all want to go from your current Wordpress version directly to a more major one in the next upgrade right? Will you start to kick off the fuss now or later?
For those using self-hosted Wordpress blogs, I recommend you to upgrade this time so that you can try out some brand new features that Wordpress offers and don’t be left out if you are serious about blogging. I am facing problems as well because the plugin that I recommend earlier, the Wordpress Automatic Upgrade Plugin, is not in the compatibility list! I hope it can still help me update but if I am needed to upgrade myself, I will do it!
I nearly missed out something,
PLEASE BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA BEFORE YOU UPDATE!

I afraid that my chinese wordings will be a mess like last time, which took me a while to fix it…
So, I might just stay out of this version first.

Oh ya, the language support might be a little late. Maybe you can try to find other Chinese blogs to try it out together or that other languages can use it already or not.

I really hope they will provide ‘one click’ to update option…
It seems to be a tedious job for me to upgrade it manually…

Ya, it is a difficult task and I still don’t know my simple update plugin can cope with this big update or not…

I agreed with sean as my wordpress is 2.2.1. I have to upgrade from 2.2.1 to 2.2.2 then to 2.2.3 ?
Kindly advise. Thanks.

It will be advisable for you to upgrade step-by-step which is to 2.2.2 first, then to 2.2.3. After this time, you should follow up with any minor or major updates to avoid the fuss like what you are facing right now.
I think Wayne Liew Dot Com will be a place where you can check for recent Wordpress updates.

@ jayhan
Don’t be panic yet. It is still in beta but it will go out of beta on 24th of September so rest assured because I am sure that by then, many plugins will make it into the list.
For your knowledge, many plugins writer haven’t test their masterpiece on the new version so if you are using a non-compatible plugin, try contacting the plugin editor.
@ MonkeyWong
Why? I think you will start to follow suit after everyone upgrade, right?

Wait wait wait, jumping straight to the new version from 2.1 is very very risky, try to go to 2.2 before you go to 2.3, it’s a lot safer…

What can we do, we are using Englishmen software, that’s why… I guess being the first few to upgrade is a little too risky
