For Malaysians wanting to get your PayPal approve but not wanting to get yourself into debts by signing up some credit cards, EON Bank Group has launched MOL Freedom, another prepaid credit card which can be called as a successor of the Ambank NexG card which I am using now to verify my PayPal account. The card is issued with several parties’ corroboration. MasterCard, 7 Eleven, RHB Bank, Maybank2U, MyMode and MOL are some of those companies behind this small little wonder.

It basically functions like the Ambank NexG card in the market now but personally, I think this card is better than the NexG card. Why? It helps you save more having no monthly fees to pay, not like the Ambank NexG card service. MOL Freedom charge you every time you top-up the card, which is RM2 every time at their selected top-up partners and RM4 every time at 7 Eleven. The starter pack will be as the same as Ambank NexG, which is RM25. You can get more info about the card here.

The best part is that young Internet earners like me can apply for the card to get their PayPal verified to use it in online purchases such as buying domain or hosting online. The card is open to Malaysian citizens aged 12 and above but unlike Ambank NexG, parental consent is needed for applicants under 18 (I still love Ambank more because of this as I am staying far from my parents). The card also opens to non-Malaysian applicants, provided that they have their passport photocopied and have a valid address in Malaysia.

I think other than these, the rest is up to those who wanted to try out to tell. I think this card is more cost-effective compared to Ambank NexG but on the other hand, there’s still something I like about Ambank NexG that stopped me from withdrawing all my money out from the card and switch to this brand new MOL Freedom. The reason is that I love the support and services provided by Ambank.

I got to verify my PayPal account, even before I get my credit card statement, all thanks to the good services by Ambank by providing me the 4 digit code needed to verify my PayPal. At the same time, of course I hope that Ambank NexG will waive the RM3 monthly fees, if this happens, I woud stick to the card, forever!

Anyone interested to sign up for one? Tell me about your experience with it and I would definitely have my thoughts shared with you.

    @ iCalvyn
Post edited to show that a starter pack is priced at RM25, which is the same as the Ambank NexG starter pack.

    @ flsam
Thanks. I heard about VMI card before and I’ve planned to get one. It’s just that the fees ae too high for me to support one yet since my PayPal funds is not that much left now after moving to a paid host.

Now you know how expensive the price is to be paid by young earners, people discriminate us! :-P

It will eat up lots of your PayPal funds during registration and every withdrawal, you’ll need lots of PayPal funds to make the applcation of the card worth. I will post a step-by-step guide if I apply for the card.

My boyfriend is a member of the MOL Freedom Card…
Yesterday, he received a call from freedom card service but my boyfriend don’t know what does she says.
I think the purpose of the call is to enquire a photocopy of his Identity Card.
Can you give me your email address by emailing it to me?
    Thank you.

Edited: Chatting form of text and sentence structure modified. :-)

Are you in need of it? With your age, I think you can get a Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card already which is in the top priority of debit card.

I wanted to get one from Public Bank but I am not 18 yet.

actually I applied for a public bank debit card and they send me a letter to go and pick up. But the problem was that time I just started to work after graduation and my company dint really allow me to take leave. And in cyberjaya there is no public bank. So, at the end it turned up i dint get to go and get it.
I was actually eyeing for a HSBC credit card, but my income level is not up to the mark. Lets see how it goes. =D

thanks a lot for the advice

You can call up their support after three to four days after submitting your card to PayPal.

Just tell them that you wanted to inquire about your transaction details and they will ask you for verification details that you filled up in the form that you submitted.

Sent an e-mail to you as well. Cheers!

I’m extremely disappointed with MOL Freedom’s customer service. I bought and sent in the application form 2 weeks ago. The customer service person told me the processing job should be completed within 10 working days. Then on Thursday, I received a missed call from them but I wasn’t at home. So I tried to call them back. Sadly, I was passed around from one person to another 4 times and in the end somebody hung me up. Imagine my frustration. Then on the next day I tried to call them again to check my application status. A guy asked for my personal details like IC, contact number, card number etc and say they’ll check and call me back within that day. Again, I was disappointed when I didn’t get any return calls. And wow, ever heard that customer support has weekend breaks? They do. I mean, I’m going to let them manage my money and personal information..How could i trust them in this case? I’m going to cancel my card soon..

If this is the case, you should try out Ambank NexG if you are in need for a prepaid credit card. They offer 24/7 support and they will settle everything with you over the phone so yo don’t have to wait on your transaction issues.

Thanks for letting me know this. If what you say is true, I would suggest that everyone with Ambank NexG should stick to it even though MOL Freedom is cheaper!

This really had given me a bad impression on MOL Freedom.

Yesterday i made a transction with AmBank NexG for the amount of 199 US$ at 3pm. I made sure I had 1000RM in the account but the charge was declined. I called AmBank and they informed me of communication errors at 3:30pm but suggested me to try again. Over the past 24 hours I had 8 phone calls with Am Bank and received the following answers from 8 different operators.

    1) Communication errors
    2) Insufficient funds
    3) The system is updated over night
    4) Paypal is down
    5) Try again at 7am this morning
    6) We have no transaction with Paypal recorded
    7) You have 108RM on yr card
    8) You have 1209RM on yr card
    9) You have 840RM on yr card
    10) Mastercard terminal is down
    11) The telecom backbone is down

and the final call today, we charged yesterday 199 US$ to your account
at 3.15pm; they actually told me 19 hours they didnt charge the account but after getting upset with them after wasting 2 hours with 8 phone calls, they told me yes, sir we charge the mastercard and we took the money out of yr account. If they need 19 hours to find a transaction how Paypal is able to find that transaction.

The joke of the day came from Am Bank, when they said don’t worry sir, we will refund the money in 30 days time. I opened y’day a bank account at jln ipoh branch with am bank and i told the branch today, that they can destroy the application form and i will use another bank, cause i feel my money is not safe with the bank and as soon i have the refund i will return the card.

I tried to charge again this morning 10us$ for skype and the system was down. i called and they said the mastercard network is down. While i was talking to them on the phone, i used my gold visa card from Standard Chartered Bank in KL and the transaction was completed within seconds. I used my Luxembourg Gold Mastercard to pay the 199US$ and paypal accepted the transaction within seconds.

Paypal in Singapore informed me it happens many time with Am Bank, that the system of them goes down and they manually approve the transaction but with millions of transactions per day Paypal isn’t going to manually approve the transactions.

It is no problem for me as i can wait for the money to return but what about someone that has limited funds on his card and due to technical errors on their system, they will take that money for 30 days.

As far as I am concern, it is stated when I signed up for Ambank NexG that transactions above RM500 is not allowed to commence and maybe this is why you gone through so many glitches with AmBank.

Thanks for sharing the information with me. This might be a wonderful experience or warning for those who wanted to own an AmBank NexG card.

For me, I will not recommend AmBank NexG for those who are eligible for a credit card or a debit card. A prepaid credit card like AmBank NexG and MOL Freedom is still not stable.

If you ask me what will the card I go for if I am eligible, I will go for Public Bank Visa Electron Debit Card. :-)

I will not reconmmend MOL ‘FREEDOM’ card at all. But if some of you are curious, you can have a try, i guarantee you want to cancel it right away!! XD

First of all, it charges you for cunrrrencioes conversions, this i what i know when i called them.., when i uses my Visa Eletron i do not have the charges at all.

So, i really want to cancel it now, and look for a Mastercard Debit or prepaid alternative, so, Ambank, sin’t that stable either, but i saw the TV commercial that day, eanyone know where i get the blue colour Debit card by Mastercard??

Btw, although I do a have PBB saving account, but they do not auto debit from there,it didn’t work that way, to me, Visa Electron has done a briiliant job as good and stable prepaid card seems PBB is an award winning company.

But ya, sometimes when you want to know the lastest balance, you have to gone wait for quite a long time, because their PBB card services includes Visa Electron under one umbrella with their credit cards services..

Other than that, they really is a good company, worth a try..! For MOL, i am totally speechless, and i plan to do nothing but shaking head on this one.. I wanted to purchse Maple SEA cash online, but, it looks like i have to dump the idea, and maybe dump the card as well..

I just got it this September.., not to mention they need 2 to 3 weeks time to actiavted my card with my deatils in Eon bank and MOL portal.. Sigh..

So, sorry, MOL card is big no no to me, but if you still want to give it a try, go ahead, and after applied it, do not forget to post it at here.. XD

Ambank is OK for me. You can get it at any 7 Eleven outlets in the Klang Valley or at any Ambank branches. I still think that if you have a Public Bank Electron Debit Card, it will be the best.

Wow, I didn’t no MOL Freedom will receive such a long critique. If your family members or friends are grumpy and disappointed by their services, just ask them to post here. Thanks.

    Hi Wayne,
I do have PB Visa Electron, and it works like a charm.. I signed up the card free, so, it’s cheaper than MOL, much much better than MIL.

I signed up for MOL, because i would llike to have a Mastercard logo debit/prepaid card, lol..

But sheesh, it eats me big time.. I just called them up again to check the status of my local RM10 transaction.. But what surprise me is they didn’t get any request from any party.. And my shopping cart is still having 2 items, i think i will not able to get it, so, i iwll have to canceled my order.. Sigh..

Btw, i iust saw the print commercial on the Blue Debit Mastercard, i went visited its website, but they only listed Affinbank and Eon Bank for Debit card when i click ‘Request a card’.. As for prepaid card, thes no link or further information about it..

I wonder why they advertised it if they do not issue the card here..

    Hi Mich,

I tried MOL card before and PayPal did not accept that. Therefore, I changed to PBE and so far I have got my money withdrawn to my PBE card from PayPal. I suggest that you go and apply for PBE card and save you the trouble.

    Cheers!

Hi, regarding your online banking account with MOL, I would suggest you to call up their support as without your card statement, you will not be able to get your Expanded Code.
