Fired For Online “Business” In Office

I guess many of you are bloggers or I can call all of you Internet users. I think most of my blog readers are working in different fields and some of them are blogging, actually many of them are. Well, do you spend your time in your office working hard in your “other” career which is the work you do online such as blogging, eBaying, dropshipping, or earning through pay-per-click programmes? Beware of this as I came across this new today, “Job losses over eBay ‘addiction’”.
Doing personal stuffs in the office as far as I am concerned is a common thing but the “personal stuffs” that employees do had evolved from making personal phone calls to the latest “business activities” I mentioned above. I am not employed and of course I don’t know how strict Malaysian employers treat such activities in the office so I need some comments from all those who are working out there.
Why I am concerned about this after the jump.
Why I am concerned about this you might ask. Well, I am a blogger, a part-time one, now in my study life. When I go out, I’ll working from 9-5 and the overtime is not taken into account yet, will I have the time to blog unless I blog in the office? Will my employer be growling and barking at me if I blog during office hours?
From the situation now, I don’t think that I will abandon my blog for anything else! For those with “issues” on the Internet, will you abandon it because of any other thing especially when the Internet is like a gold mine of yours?

Worse come to worse, I think when I am working, I’ll be eating sandwich while blogging during the lunch break. If something is desperate and I need to share it immediately with the blogosphere, I will try to my very best to dig out some time.
My future boss, don’t be so mean if you read this post when you are thinking about whether to employ me or not after I attended your interview. I am a responsible person and will of course blog after I finished all my work, definitely! Give me a try and you will know! Anyway, still many years ahead before I work. Will this work out?
Any bosses here? What will you have in mind if your subordinates have “other business” online? Will you sack them like what they do in UK or close one eye? They use also charge broadband, don’t use also charge, why not let them use? ![]()
i’d love to do the donald trump’s you’re fired to someone someday.. how i wish to be my own boss
In less than one year (if everything goes smoothly) I’ll be out working, and hope to know how those bosses think too.
@ clement
I guessed you are sharing the same dream with me but I don’t have a rich background so I will have to start by being employed.
This is alike to my blogging life, start from scratch and now I afford myself a host.
@ yung .
I wonder how my boss will think of me…
If nothing serious happens to me, it will be a year and a half for me! At the time, I am just 19! Yippee!
I can do anything in my office, even watch TVB :p
So, I have no problem at all to blog at office.
When you got a full time job in future, you need to balance between both of it. You gonna became like my housemate (as I describe in my post), muhahah~~
i admit, I did some personal stuff in office, and blogging is one of them hahaha. Normally, i did research and find ideas in office then, when back in home convert them into blog post.
But only i have the time
yay! If you can balance yourself, then its should’nt be a problem at all.
I got no problem to blog in the office, but of course I must finished up my work 1st before I blog.
i think it depends on office culture…. but just dont get overboard la… if the work project is overdue and still doing home stuffs then it’s a bit too much already….
lol yeah, blogging is a very time consuming and addictive task.
it takes quite some time to blog really… i’m studying too, the free time i have to blog is night time, and i try to write posts, reply comments and blog-hop at night till midnight.
but seriously, blogging during worktime is not really a good thing to do. which boss like to see you blog while you’re supposed to be inputing that data or fixing that computer? lol
@ Sean
I don’t want to be like your housemate, I want to be myself!
Your office is cool man, how I wished I can work in a office like that next time. Mind to disclose?
@ jayhan
Finding inspiration at the work place and convert it into a post after you went back is also categorised as blogging at work place!
I guessed you must be a very self-disciplined person.
@ babyfiona
I thought about that too but my self-discipline will be put to test. You have time to blog, this means there’s not too many work in the office after all. Right?
@ pikey
I will get sacked for that if it is the case. What kind of field had a “close-one-eye” culture? I am sure accounting and auditing is not.
@ conancat
When we blog, it is called idle time. They can’t blame us sometimes because we just don’t have things to do and blogging get us inspiration!
Too bad I am staying inside my college, only can online till about 8pm and I only managed to spend maximum 3 hours daily with blogging.
Here’s what I posted in one of my posts
What Makes A Content A Good King?
Recently I came by a blog, the author talked about the stress and many other things she face in her line of work. There she also hurled quite a few opinion about her boss. Now contents like this do make a blog interesting but what happens if your boss happen to find out the blog? Where would you stand now in your relationship with your superior? And what about future employment?
Careful bloggers, especially youths who intend to get a job some day.
Well, I hope very hard that I will not get myself into this kind of situations. Please…
Good if boss fire you, you can become a full time blogger! Yeah… earn more money!!!
If I can blog and earn a consistent MYR5000 per month, I will not need to work!
