Local blog advertising platform, Advertlets just released a post in their blog, “A note on click fraud, and being honest” in their blog about their click fraud detection system and about bloggers being dishonest by clicking on their own ads! They outlined under what circumstances that will cause a blogger’s to get frozen and have their payout process stopped.

I personally think that clicking our own ads is an act of selfishness and stupidity because you cannot underestimate the technology that advertising platforms use nowadays to prevent click fraud. Apart from that, the expansion of blog advertising network will get throttled as advertisers will end up paying more than the results that they get. With this happening, they will rank online blog advertisements as their last resort to gain exposure and we bloggers will end up earning “wind”…

I am emotional in this because I am banned by Google Adsense when I was in young 16! The experience is very disheartening and especially that everyone is saying that Google Adsense is the best earning source for blogging. You may get the ego of earning real fast money with fraudulent clickings which after that, you can boast to your friends about the stats but I can tell you, the notification of you getting banned will be a stunning one. I am stunned at the time I got an e-mail from Google Adsense about the ban. I guess for my whole lifetime you will not see Google Adsense in Wayne Liew Dot Com.

I swear that I will not click on my own ads again in my lifetime!

An advice from me is that don’t ever try to cheat on earning money, even on the Internet. Earning money by blogging is very darn easy, why using a shortcut is still lingering in your mind? Be honest of yourself, keep on blogging and I am sure that money will be flowing in real soon. The excitement will be much better than the short term one when you see you earnings rocketing up in a short period!

For those who are using Advertlets or Nuffnang, I guess they are still open for any honesty claims and confessions in writing if you had clicked on your own ads or asked others to do it. Thus, if you have committed this act, write a mail to them now and stop doing this from now on. Happy blogging, for money! :-P

Excellent views, Wayne. I have been banned by Google too and they took over USD300 if I remember correctly. Until today I do not know what happened but now I am extra careful. I also believe in walking the straight line and go by principles because we won’t feel paranoid that way.

Make sure you don’t do it again then… True, if you spend the money that you earned honestly, you will certainly feel much better. :-)

wayne, my account didn’t get suspended mate. Just under investigation only. I think it’s because when I started to join Advertlets, I have been asking my friend to “support” Advertlets advertisement
    :D

Sorry for that “wrong statement”, if they ban you, you can write in a letter. Josh was here… :-P

    Anyway, don’t do it again… Cheers! :-)

Don’t worry, sometimes you will get clicks from people really interested in teh ads, sometimes you get click loves which is given to you by people who like your contents.

Just continue to blog and impressing people with your writings. Money will start to flow in, the honest way. Cheers! :-)

    Great post wayne.

Jayhan, work on your content and traffic to your blog and forget about checking adsense everyday. I am sure that when you make your blog an authority blog you will earn big bucks with Google Adsense.

    Thanks.

Authority blogs do make lots of money but many gave up after not making any from the start.

    Nice article!

Anyway, about the 2 of you who got banned by Google Adsense, what did you do?

@ Wayne Liew, how many self clicks do you click per day?

@ lilian, what happened? Did you click your own ads? If no, then how come they ban you?

    Cheers.

    Thanks.

I self clicked on the ads for about 100 over clicks a day. Stupid me at that time…

    Oh my goodness!
    100 clicks!
    Per day some more!

Anyway, about those clicks, you performed on a separate computer that you used to access google services, right?

I was guilty of self clicking also, but I stopped. Realized that it is just not worth it to get a life ban from google, since there is much opportunity to earn legitimate honest money from them.

That day, I self clicked about 40 times? I felt bad, I don’t feel good. I am afraid that I would get a life ban. So I stopped the stupid clicks.

I just joined Google Adsense, so far I got 1,916 impressions, 58 clicks and a 3.03% Page CTR?

When did you receive the ban notification email from google aye? Very quickly? Or after some time?

Hopefully, I am still safe from a perma ban.

    Cheers!

At that time I was new to the Interent and I don’t know Google is that smart!

Don’t click it any more. At at CTR of 3%++, it is quite dangerous. It will be an interesting answer for your question, “When did I receive the notification of death?” I received it a day after I crossed the minimum payout amount which is $100.

    Aaaieeeeeeee.
Okies. The CTR is at 2.69% now.
Still dangerous har? Does anyone know the safe % ?

Or perhaps I should send a message to google and let them know that I suspect someone is click frauding on that day? Then have them reset the clicks? I don’t want to get a life ban due to stupid self clicking.

    Cheers!

Don’t ever write in unless they have banned you. Doing this will be like wanting attention for your account. Also, if they have banned you, you will need IP logs as proof to show that there is a spam bot on your site.
