You can read about guides that teaches you the best way to pull in readers is by writing unique contents by using your creativity. They show you the ways of how you can get creative in blog posting and they tell you that being different from others will not make your readers bored.

Today, you will learn something different about those talks. I will be posting 5 advantages of blogging about what others are blogging about. I am posting this because unique contents is something you must squeeze hard out of your head. The Internet is booming with contents because you are not in the stone age of the Internet and it is a hard thing to do for you to produce unique contents.

The 5 reasons that I have compiled are:

    Baby waking up and stretching

  1. Free yourself from pressure

Unique contents need time, effort and also your own flair in writing to make the whole articles up. Getting creative is hard and structuring a quality article is even harder.

People out there who have tight schedule for things will not be advised to produce a unique article in each and every one of your blog posts. Straining your mind and body to produce a unique article a day is hard and pressurizing. When you are pressurize of doing something, you tend to look at it as your job and you will dislike it.

If you are blogging on what others are blogging about, you will have reference and you will not need much thinking about a post. If you are a good writer, an article for your blog can be produced in just 10 minutes!

  2. Pitching traffic from source articles

When you are writing about something which you refer from other blogs, you link it to the source articles. When you do so to a Wordpress blog owner, he /she will receive a notification about the linkback. He might pay your site a visit as well.

When you have a pingback displayed in the comment section of an article which receives a lot of traffic, you will get some traffic over to your blog if your excerpts sounds relevant to the visitors.

  3. You have different base of readers

Some readers might only read blogging tips from Wayne Liew Dot Com and others might only read blogging tips from Problogger. Readers don’t read many blogs nowadays. Bloggers can visit a lot of blogs to do comment marketing but they can’t cover blogs on the same at once as well!

Think about it. The consequences will be bad if someone nudge you with this message:

Why didn’t you tell me this on your blog? I nearly missed out the fact that Google is penalizing blogs with paid posts! Luckily I read it on XXX. I will go there and never come back here any more!

    What will you think?

  4. Yelling to voice opinion

  5. Your opinion is precious

Some readers are your fans. They don’t listen to others and they only want your opinion on certain doubts. This is why even you blog about something hot, people will not leave. You have your own opinions on that particular matter and only even your writing style is the one wanted by your readers.

The key to blog on what others are blogging is to add in your opinion as much as possible. A post just to notify your readers about an event is not interesting compared to a post full of juicy opinions from you. Also, you will have the chance of voicing your own opinion on the issue and link to it in your future posts.

  6. Networking with fellow bloggers

When you have your say on an issue or create a conflict with what people are heavily discussing, you will make either friends or enemies. Conversations will create the opportunity to know more about fellow bloggers and Cross Blog Conversation is what you need to read in order to get hold of this trick.

When you have friends, or even enemies with related blogs, they are the ones who will quickly respond on your articles and provide feedbacks. Some blogs with great contents don’t get comments because the blogger don’t network and interact. Try to start interacting by blogging about contents of others.

I have gone the opposite way once with 5 Reasons To Tap Saturated Niche and now hopefully with this one, you are able to see things from the other way.

Conclusion on Blog About Contents of Others

It will be great if you can find some space within your posting frequency to fit some posts that are blogging about contents of others because of the advantages stated above.

However, be aware that blogging about other contents might chase first time visitors away. First time visitors come to your blog because they want unique contents. They want to find new source of contents and if they find something which is same as what they can find elsewhere, they might just click away.

Your Thoughts On Blogging About Contents of Others

Have you blog about contents of others whereby you have add in your own opinion? Are they easier to produce than unique contents? How unique contents (if you have  ) have done to your blog? Is it worth the sweat?

Anyone knows how to compile but do you actually write compilation articles? Are your bits all around your articles? Think of this solution. What if all the points in 10 of your posts are being compiled together to make a huge list of goodies? Will it be the next great thing?

Let me show you a few examples of a great compilation. 45 Fresh, Clean and Impressive Designs is one great compilation post and another one will be 49 Most downloaded Wordpress themes of all time by our local blogger, Hong Kiat. After a look at these articles and you still don’t get the idea, I don’t know what to say.

Benefits of a Compilation Post

  • Pillar article - It is no doubt that it will become a pillar article instantly if your compilation has never been done by others before and it proves to be a great resource. That great masterpiece will become evergreen. People will click it when you boast a link with a title like “100 Tools for Your School Project Needs” or “Top 100 Celebrities Shame Shame Moments” on your sidebar or on other blogs.
  • Lots of traffic

  • Traffic and incoming links - This don’t need a lot of say. Just look at the two examples that I have given you. Look at all the comments that the articles have generated for the blogs. Since the post is evergreen, it will get traffic and links all the time. Leveraging traffic and all the incoming links can be done easily if you constantly have such articles coming out.
  • The WOW factor - When you post something really long (with good readability) and stuffed with a lot of screenshots or images, people tend to look at it after a “WOW”! You just won the first impression from your visitors!
  • Little or lesser writings - The process that you have gone through during the compilation work before you post it will make the work needed when writing out the actual post much lesser. Since most of the resources will be described, you will only need some refurbishment to do.
  • Social media favorite - Compilation posts are always the favorite of social media users because of the WOW factor mentioned above. Just a peek on Digg has got me this wonderful screenshot of a compilation post topping the social media front page.

Digg Front Page Compilation Article

I know there are still a lot of benefits that you can see through the two links I have given to you. Do you think the benefits are worthwhile for you to pick a compilation post idea as your next article?

Drafting a compilation will need more work from you compared to all your small bits articles. Follow the few steps that I have outlined below and I am sure that you are on your way to create your next pillar article by using a compilation article.

Steps to Create a Compilation Article

  1. Brainstorm for ideas
With so many ideas are being taken, you really need to sit down and think of what will you compile in your compilation post. A fresh and unique compilation don’t need to be different, a little deviation from what people had done will do you the magic. Try changing a compilation from “50 Resources to Create a Great Blog” to “100 Resources to Create a Great Soccer Blog”. It is a great technique which you can learn from Evil Posting Ideas - Build On Others’ Articles.
  2. Writing Down Compilation Bits

  3. Save and bookmark bits of info
This should be the most time-consuming part in the creation of your compilation post. You will need to use major search engines to find relevant bits, go through links provided by some of the bits, inquire for similar items from creators of those bits, ask for permission to let their bits being compiled by you. You shall not be lazy in this step as it would be disheartening if someone post this comment in your compilation post, “Isn’t this (an undiscovered bit by you due to laziness) as good as all the 45 tools that you have posted?”
  4. Writing Your Compilation Post
You will require a skill here as well. You must decide whether to post the best in your list first or scatter them all around the list. Also, you will need to compare and ditch out some items to make the number looks good, i.e. 100 instead of 103. If your list is long, short description will be enough as your readers of the post will become text-blind, looking at all the links and screenshots unless they are very interested in one of the bits you have provided.
  5. Notifying and pinging
Tell people about the compilation. Bloggers in your niche must surely be notified. Users of social media such as your fans and friends in Digg or StumbleUpon must be sent a shout so that they can check out your work. A blog must have contents and marketing to be successful. It is nothing if you have produced a great compilation and no one or little know about it.
  6. News Broadcaster

  7. Is your host ready?
The last thing you want from a social media traffic spike or a Digg effect to be precise is having a server crash. It may seemed to be selfless to tell your web host to be prepared for predicted rush but the feeling of sorry will be immense if it really hits the front page of sites like Digg and your site is down.

What to compile?

To get things started off for you, I have a few ideas which are already being compiled or not yet being compiled by others.

  • Screenshots of useful sites
  • Photos
  • Solutions

Do You Have Anything to Say About Compilation Article?

Sometimes it is just too hard to think of what to post. I know many people give you ways on how to find inspirations for your next post. Simple contents can get you through for a short period of time but I don’t think your readers will want to read such articles for long. They want your opinion on things, they want fresh posts and red hot ideas!

Piggyback

They will be pushing you over the edge if you don’t have many resources to come up with high quality article. You can’t blame them because this is their rights as a reader. I find this a trouble for myself as well but I have just the right solution for you - Blog what others are blogging about, but upgrade the post.

Where to get written articles?

You can get them from these places:

  • Blogs - Don’t bloghop just to leave comments and to read for fun. Look at the contents. Do you have any extra knowledge on the topic? If so, it is a blogging topic!
  • Articles database - Sites like Ezinearticles have millions of articles waiting to be read. Hop over, dig out articles related to your blog and read it.
  • Dog Digging Madly

  • News sites- What is happening in your community that will have an impact on your blogging topic? These news can be great materials for a opinion article.
  • Social media - Social media sites like Digg and StumbleUpon offers tonnes of sites which are getting a lot of traffic. An opinion post on the contents submitted will nick some traffic for you because your article link might be appearing below the contents as pingbacks.

I am sure there are more sources out there that you can find articles for you to ride on. It is up to you whether to write about these contents or not.

Found it! How to Produce My Own Articles With It?

I will give you 5 steps to complete your piggyback article that will eventually become a quality post on your blog.

  1. Find more related articles
You can have your own article with only one article written by someone else but different articles offer different values. If you have more articles to form your own article, you will be get a synergy post out of the articles.
  2. Read through
Check them for items that is unavailable in the articles but you would want to add. The best is always trying to add something to the articles. It can be an opinion, a disagreement or even an add-on of points. Another reason for you to read through is to keep you from being ashame for repeating the points already mentioned.
  3. Write it
You are already getting ideas from these posts so when you are writing your own article, try not to use the jargons and words that are being used by these articles. Write in your own words. Write down their links for linking later and close down the pages will be a good way to avoid yourself from copying directly.
  4. Credit your inspiration source
It is always up to you whether to credit them or not because I understand that short-minded readers will think that you are copying without seeing the fact that you are actually adding value to the source. Remember, credit by using permalinks within your article, not by using the “via” and “from” tags as it might send your readers away.
  5. Nudge the writer of your source
Tell them about your linking and ask them about what they think about the points that you have added on. This will lead to a linkback to your site because the author might have something more to comment about your opinion. See how a linkbait with a post on someone’s post can be done?

Rounding Up the tips

To sum up the whole thing, such contents can be a wonder content because you are still writing your own content but at the same time, you are interacting with bloggers within your niche. This might get you traffic as well as links which is important for a blogger.

Just have these golden rules in mind when you want to write such posts:

  1. Don’t copy and paste (even images) from the inspiration site.
  2. Write in your own words.
  3. State the source within your article.
  4. Put in your style of writing.
  5. Don’t be afraid of false plagiarism claim (if you did not copy).

Evil Grin

Other benefits of building on posts of others

Some bloggers don’t know that they have produced a world-class linkbait item. You know, you rewrite it with the ways above but with a difference, you market them by baiting other top blogs or submit them to social media sites. The original source will still get credits upon your action because I do say “Always credit your source”. The evil part here is, “You got your blog twisted into the bait for doing nothing”!

Feedback from you

What to you think about this way to find a posting idea? Have you done such a thing before? I would like to hear about other evil posting ideas that you have done before. Share with me and maybe I will have the chance to build on it.

As a blogger, we all love to write and we have our own style. We might not have noticed it but those words that we post on our blogs might contain some underlying messages. However, some messages are just not good to be discovered by your readers as they might be leaving your blog and will never come back.

What are the types of messages have such a power? I will sharing you with ten messages that will be sending me away from your blog!

10 Messages That Will Send Your Readers Away

“I’m a dumb. Stupid, why are you reading stuffs written by me?”
No people will admit it but sometimes through your words, you indirectly mean it. Do sufficient research before you blog about something. Writings that are wrong will chase your readers away. We sometimes write things that are gathered from one source but collaborating the facts with another source won’t do you much harm and it will actually decrease the chances of you giving away wrong information.

“I will be away.”
I have seen people making this mistake over and over again. I know that you are being true and honest to your visitors but by doing so you will be having a dip in your traffic. Having the “I am not in” message on top of your blog will also give new visitors the impression that your information might not be updated for a long time. Find someone to blog for you or pre-write the posts to be posted automatically using Wordpress’ time-stamping function.

“Pay me and I’ll teach you.”
The blogosphere is booming because bloggers share knowledge without wanting a charge. Having nothing but only words to promote a product of yours won’t do your blog any good. I know many people spend online nowadays but still, there are a lot of conservative Internet users which will think twice before giving you their credit card number. Offer something and offer more with a premium version.

“Get lost if you don’t get what I write!”
I thought your readers is your customers and you will need to try your best to make them understand? You might have a good vocabulary but are you twisting your sentence too much? If you have did so, try to explain to your readers in a simpler version. It might be something longer but it will be worth it if the reader understands it and talk about your articles.

“I love money more than you!”
Yes, click here to make me money. This will make you tonnes of money, click it! Some blogs are spreading the message that when I visit the blog, I am making the blogger money. I am stressed with all the inline ad panels and sometimes tonnes of sponsored posts. A considerable amount is understandable but too much of it is equivalent to pointing a knife to your readers and demand for money.

“I’m always right! You’re always wrong…”
I know you have the personality but no human is correct all the time. You might be a genius or you might have won yourself many awards but once in a while you might be wrong without yourself knowing it. When people point out your errors, this shows that they really read what you write. A correction and a sincere Thank You are not too much to ask for, right? However, if you want to argue with the word “Personality” on your personal blog, it will be OK.

“I have no idea of what to post!”
Are you kidding me? You have no idea of what to post and you just told your readers who had their saliva dripping off their mouth about it? They’ll be gone soon rather than contributing their ideas for you! This will be worse if they are all bloggers, they will be laughing because they just lost a competitor! Come on, if you have no ideas of what to post, read 10 Suggestions for Easy Contents and Hack your way out of writer’s block rather than spending your time and effort writing such posts!

“I got this from wayneliew.com!”
I am not saying crediting your source is something bad. You should always credit your source but when you pull contents from your source, don’t copy and paste the article completely! Quote them and credit your source with a link within a post. Don’t use words like “via” and “from”. People will have the false impression that you are a copycat, especially if your posts are just alike (not completely the same) with the source.

“What about this? What about that?”
What’s the problem with you? I thought you are the one who has all the say in your blog? Write things firmly and don’t have doubts. By the time you are writing, you should have done sufficient research to let your readers know about it. Let your readers absorb and have their say, not to confuse them even more by asking them questions that supposedly should be them asking.

Last but not least,

Pointing at You Swearing

“F**k off! D**n you, b***h!”
Get what I mean? I’ll let you go if you again say this is personality since I enjoyed this pretty much on personal blogs. If you are aiming your informational blog for worldwide readers, avoid using foul words. Readers from your countries might see it as a norm but some might see it as dirty and impolite. Use aggressive terms but not such words to express your anger or impatience. Swearing others is just not a good way for bloggers who talks and communicate with words.

Your feedback on this post

You got all the 10. Have you said something like this before on your blog? Do you have came across messages that are funnier and would like to share with me and all my readers? Which do you find the most often on the blogosphere?

Do you remember 10 Reasons You Are Not Getting Comments? One of the points in there will be your posts are just lousy. I have a habit of bloghopping around and I find that sometimes, it is not that a blog has low quality articles, it is just that the presentation of the articles that is causing the problems.

Writing Article

I would like to share with you the 10 Variables of Article Readability with this post. The reason I call them variables is that you will need to manage the amount to get the best of it. Excessive and non-existence usage will cause problems for you.

  • Paragraphing
Paragraphs are must have elements for an article. Article which don’t have proper paragraphing will make the article seems boring and your readers will be so tired reading it.

I have seen people using one line paragraphs and paragraphs that might reach 20 lines long. A set of similar points should be grouped into one paragraph and another paragraph should mark the start of another thinking point. Equal paragraph lengths will also be very important since your readers will not have a sudden surge or inconsistent information absorption because of the irregularities in paragraphs’ length.

The rule of thumb in paragraphing which is recommended by me will be try to write a paragraph not more than 7-8 lines. The amount of words with this length will be sufficient (will not be shallow or overloaded with information) and most of the time, the length will be performing well no matter the screen or font size.

  • Sub-Headers

    Headings

I like to use sub-headers such as this post of mine. A bolded text or a line of text with different styling which will make the line stands out is good for an article to make a reader understands what you are trying to bring up at one glance. This will benefit those who don’t have enough time for blog reading and also, this technique might turn a first time visitor into a frequently returning reader because you showed your substance with these headings.

You must also be aware that having too much sub-headers but little contents beneath it will make your article looks shallow.

  • Italics and Bolds
Italic and bold in our blog post editor are often used to emphasis on certain keywords in our articles. Using these words will make clear to readers what are the important items that will need their attention.

    Highlighter highlighting words

Occasional usage of bold and italic words can be useful but if you had used it on most part of your article, why not bolding the whole article or paragraph? It is like coloring (not drawing) an article with a highlighter if you are bolding things here and there!

  • Colors
Some people are deep in love with colors and they went crazy in using it. They might use a different color for each paragraph. Yes, your site might look lively but do you know that too many colors used will actually chase people away from your blog? Did you came across newspapers with different colors for words in their articles?

    Colored Text

Black text with a white background is still the top choice if you want to present an article with a high level of readability. Check out article databases like Ezinearticles. There are tonnes of words and what color did they used for the text?

  • Links
Links within an article can do more than linking all the relevant information on the Internet to your article. A link will always have a different color than your plain text. A link has been said that it is an enhancement to a post as plain post with just black and white.

Adding links with colors matching to the theme you used for your site and spreading them in an appropriate amount over your post will add some interactivity for your readers. Also, you might be giving out links to external sources and internal articles which has proved to be useful in link and traffic building.

  • Inline Text Ads

    Kontera Ad Bubble

Remember Kontera as a money maker? Do you know other services like AdBrite and Clicksor? They all provide inline text ads which you will have ad bubbles popping out from keywords that are highlighted by them in your post. Although many claimed that this will deteriorates the quality of an article but I do see the benefit side of it.

If used properly by controlling the amount of keywords highlighted, adding codes on places you forbid and allow the ads to be shown and of course, changing the color of the ad links will deny the ads from decreasing your readability and will make you money at the same time!

  • Images
Adding relevant images to your articles will give your readers a break after reading a large amount of text. A change of colors in your post with images will allow their eyes to relax a little. Using an image might also be a great way to replace explanations that might take 500 words to complete!

Despite the fact that images are good, don’t fill your blog up with lots of images unless you are having a photoblog or you are a personal blogger who loves photo-shooting.

  • Text Font Size

    Small font size

Will you go for a small font size or a large one like what Problogger is using? Big fonts will make your post looks long which requires a lot of scrolling but small fonts will make your readers focus with a little bit more effort in focusing their vision to read what you are writing about.

  • Bullets
Bulleted items in a list within a post is a very good method of summarizing all the points which you would like to show. Although it is good, I do see a lot of people ‘abusing’ it by using it the wrong way.

If your bulleted points are in a paragraph form, you might like to space up the paragraphs or adding a sub-heading to a point so that the points will not seen to be chunked together. If you are writing a list with one line points, I will recommend you to chunk it all together since separating them will make your post looks hollow with nothing much to be offered.

  • Fluid and Fixed Themes
The last thing here will be something that has nothing to do with your writings but it will have an significant impact on it. If you have a fluid theme and you are having a monitor which has low screen resolution, the lines of text might seems great for you but what if your readers are having high resolutions? Your articles might be full of one or two liners to them.

Read more of it at Fixed vs Fluid Website Layouts and do you see why this affects your post readability?

Implementing the Variables Smartly

Screen Resolution Graph

I am not the jack of all blogs and I should say every blogs differs in a way. You might be getting a lot of readers that don’t read Wayne Liew Dot Com. I do advise you not to view your stats frequently but use it wisely to monitor things like what are the screen resolutions your readers use and what are the significant variables that have an impact on reader responses.

Have you tried out writing your articles with some of the tips above? Do you have any impact with the tips? Do you have any other secret tips to be added onto what I have write about above?

Catchy titles are always recommended to attract attention of your readers. The article with the most attractive title on this blog will be My Traffic Is Gone! My Blog Is Dying!. People will feel like clicking on the link if you have a catchy title.

Digg Effect

Many people have this creativity to produce an attractive and interesting title to sabotage social media or to get attention for their articles. However, you must make sure that your title is not way too catchy to the extent that it does not match your content any more.

What will happen if your title is too catchy and your articles just don’t match it? Can’t think of it? Let me tell you.

  • High First Time, No Return Visits
If you have the routine to market every posts of yours, an over-catchy title will surely bring you a lot of traffic but most of them will be passing traffic, which means they will come and go. These readers might return, but the chances are low. This is because your title “tricked” them into your site which offers something way below their expectations.
  • Sarcastic and Negative Comments

    Negative Digg Comment

Try browsing through the comments section of the front page of Digg. If you read them one-by-one or you have had a Digg effect before, you will know how aggressive and stern the users of social media are. They come, they don’t like it and a thumbs down will be shown right in front of you. Don’t trick them, the consequences are really bad.

  • Decreased Subscriber Base
Your readers subscribe to you because of your contents, not because you have all the catchy words in your title that makes their readers look good. Some subscribers have over 100 titles in their feed reader a day, appealing for their attention. If your posts is chosen because of the catchy title and what you actually offer is crap, you deserved it if your blog gets unsubscribed from the reader.

Are these consequences bad enough for you to focus on what I will be writing after this about how you can overcome over-creativeness of post titles? Let’s move on then.
