The whole week has been really crazy for this blogging tips blog. It is the first time in one week that my posts got StumbledUpon three times and two of it brought me high spikes of traffic.
The blogosphere has been filled with juicy blogging tips and red hot buzz as always to fill up your week. Let me start quoting and giving out some link loves with this post.
Google AdSense Referral Income Shrinking For Publishers
First up, the big news of the week is of course money-related. The biggest Internet or blog monetization platform, Google AdSense is making the headlines again by becoming stingier to their publishers.
New changes have been made to the Google Adsense Referral Program. You can read the summary of the changes over at Summary of New Changes to AdSense Referrals Programs. People living outside US, Canada and Japan will have their Google AdSense earnings greatly affected by these changes but not me since I have been banned by them ages ago.
Blog Content Creation and Writing Tips
Rocai, with his article, Blogging Is Not Always About Writing, emphasizes the importance of reading to be added to your list of blogging activities.
Since blogging thrives from valuable information, a blogger must first be well informed to be able to write informative posts. Hence, the need to read arises.
I totally agreed with what Rocai had pointed out with the statement above. Without any reading, my blog posts would not have the chance to appear as they are now on Wayne Liew Dot Com. Apart from reading blogs and news online, I would also recommend bloggers to read books and magazines which is related to their niche, marketing skills, creativity and productivity guides, writing skills and personal development.

Blogging is mainly revolving around content creation, which is not an easy task. Many failed to produce contents when the idea pool went dry or their blogging niche is becoming boring for them. However, Mohsin at Blogging Bits came up with How to Write When You Can’t that will show you some ways to revive your passion in writing.
I am always on the seek to get social media traffic as they are a good platform to build a loyal reader base. If you are having difficulties in having your articles featuring on social media sites, you seriously need to read How to Create Social Media’s Favorite Type of Blog Post by Skellie.
If you’re a regular user of social media, you’ll notice that big lists of resources, tools and articles are consistently popular.
This quote basically tells you that you will need a well-planned compilation article to get great results from social media.
Maintaining Your Longevity In Blogging
If you are finding your blog not going anywhere after a long presence, you seriously need to read 31 Days to Becoming a Better Blogger. This action plan consists of things that you might have forgot to do from the Day 1 of your blogging journey. Even me myself had left something out in my blogging plans which are listed in this article. Yes, this is another article by Skellie from Skelliewag.org (she is the queen of blogosphere at the moment).
Tay, on his Super Blogging Tips blog, has also produced a wonder article, 10 Ways To Be A Successful Long-Term Blogger which I think is vital if you are starting to feel like giving up blogging or you want to stay far away from getting the bored and disappointing feeling in blogging.
…everyone suffers from an intense lack of hope or severe writer’s block at one point in time, sometimes even more than once. But to be successful you need to have a long-term focus and never give up. The longer you blog, the more you learn, and the easier it gets.
This is a quote from Tay’s article which I really like. By becoming a long-term blogger, you will gain much more reader along the way, watching a lot of competitors giving up along the journey and in the end, your blog will be the one standing out in your niche.
Turning Your Blog Into A Money Maker
On the blog monetization side of blogging, Rocai came up with this article, What Makes a Blog Make Money.
At first, I thought blogging was an easy way to earn cash. Create your blog, put some content and display your AdSense and you’re on your way to making millions. You can’t blame me to believe that way considering the countless BS I’ve read about making money online.
This is not the way I think when I started this blog or blogging but this is what countless bloggers out there are having in their mind when they wanted to make money from blogging which is totally wrong if you want to make good money from blogging rather than a few cents.
If you have adverts on your blog, you are blogging for money but whether your blog is a money maker or not, it depends on the several factors such as your blog traffic and the number of subscribers your blog has as pointed out by Rocai.
Offline Blogging Productivity With A Desktop Change
I found this very interesting article in one of my newly discovered web design blogs over the week. AntBag.com which is owned by Anthony boast a popular post which had influenced me, How To Organize Your Desktop to Boost Productivity.
After reading his post on how to have a productivity boosting desktop, my desktop has become a powerful productivity platform which you can see the screenshot below.
It might seem odd to your friends but I am sure such desktop will be unique among average Joe computer users.
Write Blogging Tips For A 8GB USB Flash Drive
Last but not least, another blog will be giving out goodies. Jason Blanton of Success for your Blog is giving out a 8GB, yes, 8GB USB flash drive for a link to his competition post from a blogging tips post of yours.
You don’t have to own a blogging tips blog. Just write a blogging tips post and link your the post to Submit your best blogging tip and win an 8GB USB Flash Drive - Blog Competition. You will be getting a link from Jason as long as you have a blogging tips post linking to him. If you are lucky enough, that flash drive will be yours!
Week In Review
My week is full of ups and downs. I got a few offers, acceptances and rejections (don’t ask why are these happening). Anyway, I am glad that I am back posting everyday here.
Posting everyday here is what can be seen, the backstage movement is a lot since I am planning to take a blogging break for the upcoming Chinese New Year. It might be a blogging break but it will not be a break for me as I will be catching up in my academics.
How was your week in blogging? Learned any new things? Do you have anything to share with me about your offline activities? I hope you will have a great weekend ahead!

“It might seem odd to your friends but I am sure such desktop will be unique among average Joe computer users.”
lol, you should see my desktop. Not even a pixel of room to spare, everything’s filled with icons

Thanks for the link Wayne.
Your desktop looks absolutely spiffy.

That desktop layout idea is super. It’s something I vaguely attempted on my ancient Windows 3.1 machine many years ago, but forgot all about it in the various upgrades over the years. I’ve created just the right layout and background image and am now using a registry hack to lock all the icons in position.

@ Sean

Thanks for the link, Wayne!
I also think your desktop is a great idea. I made something similar to that a few years ago, but before I started blogging - it was just used to keep myself organized. But applying that to blogging as well is a great idea.

I think that Google changed its referral policy because it could be easily exploited by creating more and more blogs, referring them to adsense from a single blog and working and promoting new ones to enable it earn $100 (or whatever) in first 6 months and resulting in $250 earning for referrer thus a total of $350 which would have taken more efforts to earn from a single blog

@ Tay
The new desktop has been performing great for me in terms of productivity. You should try it out for your daily productivity needs as well.
@ Jalaj
But why this only happens to countries other than US and Japan? Anyway, maybe the conversion rate after we Asians clicked these ads are not high…

Just got banned by AdSense for making too much money on Feb 19, 2008. All websites that we had were generic business websites and everything was legal. Google Adsense’s email indicated a ‘bad business model’. Our translation is ‘We are paying you too much money’. Go figure. We had been up and running for over a year until our websites were getting noticed by Alexa.com and Google AdSense’s mysterious partners.

For making too much money is some of the reasons that many webmasters have received for their Google AdSense ban. The Internet is booming with other monetization opportunities. I guess you will just need to give other methods a try.
