Akismet is a plug-in or software widely used by blogs, especially Wordpress-based blogs to prevent comment spam and trackback spam. This little tool is the most downloaded tool and the most highly-rated tool by Wordpress users. Many bloggers trusted this tool so much that whenever comments or trackbacks is being eaten by Akismet, bloggers usually don’t bother to moderate the comments again. Also, a blog’s Akismet moderation place sometimes is really filled with spams, lots of them! With so many Wordpress blogs and blogs out there using Akismet, getting banned by a blog means you are getting banned from commenting from the blogosphere!

How do you know you got blacklisted by Akismet? If you are already blacklisted, whenever you post a comment to an Akismet-enabled blog, your comment will not appear, not even the message “Your comment is awaiting moderation”. This is when you should start to roll up your sleeves to see who is the “bad boy” behind your banning. If you don’t trust me, try revisiting the post a few days after you posted the comment, if the comment is still not there, this means your comment is still in the Akismet comment area. You can also request the author of the blog to help you to check out but trust me, most bloggers won’t bother about it, not everyone is Wayne Liew, OK? :-P

You might have been banned at some blogs that you’ve left your footprints. It’s quite hard to identify which one but if you have to intentions to spam or post irrelevant comments (most important is to not leave a link to your blog inside a comment), I have a way which you can free yourself from this mess.

I’m banned! So?

You can continue carrying the banned status, saying out loud “Who cares about Akismet?”. You still can comment, but not with the same URL and e-mail address any more. You can also use the same details to comment, which will make every comment of yours being eaten by Akismet, which is very very frustrating… You will find your voices unheard, find that this big big blogosphere left only a few place to go, such as Wayne Liew Dot Com!

I want to comment with by link and URL! If there’s a will, there’s a way. If you think there’s really a mistake regarding your banning, you can try to contact Akismet. Their support is really fast, all you have to do is to provide the name, e-mail address and URL that you always use to comment and provide the reasons why they should de-list you from their blacklist. They will recheck your previous comments and evaluate the seriousness of it. This sounds very hard because all the Big Boys out there uses the word “at their discretion” in the evaluation process. One thing you must know is that they forgave me!

Why Wayne Liew knows all this? Wayne Liew admits that he is once a spammer but he has now got out of the jail! One thing to share with you all is that if you don’t write in to Akismet that you got banned accidentally or you have the urge to stop spamming (like my case), they will not free you! You must at least try to write in to them. They are not as mean as Google Adsense, until now, Google Adsense still can’t forgive me for my 16 years old mistake (fraudulent clickings). I am young that time and did not realised the power of Google!

You might say that my mistakes in spamming is not big. You should rethink about that. I have a bad record! Here I provide one of my example “spam format” for you as reference! Imagine you are having this and seeing this in your blog. How will you respond to it? It sounds formal and nice but you see, not all people likes it.

I know it’s serious but my touching words, asking for forgiveness from Akismet touched them! I am free for about five months and I sure do enjoy posting relevant comments. I swear to myself that if I spam one more time, I’ll stop blogging immediately!
